Previously, Khandi Alexander starred for six years as Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Alexx Woods on the hit CBS television drama CSI: Miami, receiving numerous citations, including an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Achievement in Acting.

Before that, Khandi Alexander co-starred as the sophisticated radio personality Catherine Duke on the long-running TV sitcom NewsRadio. Khandi Alexander also had a recurring role on the popular television drama ER, earning rave reveiws. Khandi Alexander's memorable portrayal of a sympathetic drug addict in the Emmy-nominated HBO miniseries The Corner truly solidified her stature as a gifted and promising actress. Khandi Alexander's performance mixed gritty pathos and unsentimental tragedy and was praised by critics and viewers alike. Among Khandi Alexander's many other television credits are guest appearances in Law & Order: SVU, NYPD Blue and La Femme Nikita.

Khandi Alexander began her career as a dancer on Broadway. Khandi Alexander's big break came when legendary choreographer Bob Fosse hand-picked her for his national touring company of Dancin'. From there, Khandi Alexander appeared in the original Tony Award-wnning Broadway production of Dreamgirls and later starred on Broadway as Velma Kelly in Bob Fosse's Chicago. In between, Khandi Alexander forged a four-year-long creative collaboration with the multi-platinum songstress Whitney Houston. Their assocation culminated in Khandi Alexander choreographing Houston's successful I'm Your Baby Tonight internationa concert tour, which established Houston as a star and Alexander as a guiding force. Khandi Alexander also served as choreographer for the 1992 American Music Awards.

Khandi Alexander was born and raised in Queens, New York, and lives in Los Angeles.
