Biography #2Randall Wallace is currently directing and producing We Were Soldiers, from his own screenplay. The film is based on the New York Times best-seller We Were Soldiers Once ... and Young, by LT. General Harold Moore (Ret.) and Joseph L. Galloway, and stars Mel Gibson. His first screenplay was for Braveheart, a film which earned 10 Academy Award nominations and won five Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography. Wallace was honored with the Writers Guild of America Award as well as with Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
Wallace published his first novel in 1980 entitled The Russian Rose. Since then he has written five others: So Late into the Night, Blood of the Lamb, Where the Angels Watch and the novel versionsof Braveheart and Pearl Harbor.
For television he has co-created, written and produced two network series, Broken Badges and Sonny Spoon.
Wallace grew up in Tennessee and Virginia. He graduated from Duke University with a major in religion and spent a year at Duke Divinity School. He is a black belt in karate and enjoys reading, playing guitar and golf.
