Rex Pickett
The feature film SIDEWAYS is based on novelist and screenwriter Rex Pickett's novel of the same title (available from St. Martin's Press). Pickett also wrote the short film MY MOTHER DREAMS THE SATAN'S DISCIPLES IN NEW YORK, which won the 2000 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. In addition, he has written and directed two independent feature films, CALIFORNIA WITHOUT END (Bavarian Radio Television) and FROM HOLLYWOOD TO DEADWOOD (Island Pictures). He has also written numerous scripts -- on spec and for hire -- and another novel, LA PURISIMA.
Pickett was born in Merced, California and grew up in San Diego. He graduated from the University of California at San Diego, completing a special projects major specializing in contemporary literary and film criticism and creative writing.
