Agnès Varda
Agnès Varda (born May 30, 1928) is a French filmmaker and director based in Paris and one of the key figures in modern film. She is called the Grandmother of the New Wave by some of her critics.
She was born in Brussels, Belgium.
Her movies, documentaries and art installations, focus on documentary realism and social commentary. Her entire work features a distinct experimental style. For the 1985 documentary Vagabond/Without Roof or Rule she received the Golden Lion of the Venice Film Festival.
Agnès Varda teaches at the European Graduate School in Saas Fee, Switzerland.
