Michael Mahern
Michael Mahern works as a teacher of emotionally disturbed middle-school kids in Los Angeles' Crenshaw District.
Previously, he worked for 17 years as a screenwriter in film and television. Among his credits were Michael Karbelnikoff's Mobsters, which starred Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey; and episodes of the popular television series New York Undercover, one of which was entitled Buster and Claudia, with Terrence Howard guest-starring as the former. That episode gave Mr. Mahern the original idea for Waist Deep.
During his years as a screenwriter, he was highly active in the Writers Guild of America. He served as secretary-treasurer of the Guild from 1997 to 2001, and was co-chairman of the pivotal 2001 negotiating committee.
