Joe found a place in Concordia University's renowned Theatre Performance Program in Montreal. There he caught the attention of the local theatre scene performing in several productions inspiring Montreal critics to claim Joe as a talent to watch. This proved true in Joe's performance in the Centaur Theatre production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane, which garnered him 2 nominations for the Masques Awards, (Quebec's theatre awards). Joe made history in being the first Anglophone and individual to win the coveted Revelation Award (Best New Find), an award that has usually be given to a theatre productions or production companies.
Some of Joe's recent film credits include a lead role in Suddenly Naked, opposite Wendy Crewson and Peter Coyote, which was nominated for Best Motion Picture at the 2003 Genie Awards (Canadian Academy Awards). A lead role in Hollywood North opposite Alan Bates, Matthew Modine, and Debra Unger. A supporting role in Swindle opposite Tom Sizemore and the Miramax feature film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind starring Sam Rockwell, George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore. Joe also starred in the feature film Jericho Mansions opposite James Caan as well as the Roland Emmerich FOX feature The Day After Tomorrow.
Joe was cast by Martin Scorsese in the Academy Award Winning feature film The Aviator opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett and Frances Conroy and currently finished work on the Mini-series Human Trafficking starring Donald Sutherland, Mira Sorvino and Robert Carlyle.
Joe Cobden's life in showbiz began as an 11-year-old busker took to the hustle of the street. After tours throughout Europe and North America, Joe finally decided to settle down for a while and get his schooling out of the way.
