Biography #2Brandon James Routh is an American film actor who has been cast for the lead role in the latest Superman movie: Superman Returns.
Although born in Des Moines, Routh grew up in Norwalk. He attended the University of Iowa and starred in many productions at the Norwalk Theater of Performing Arts.
His first professional acting role was in the ABC television series Odd Man Out, and he went on to guest star in CBS's Cold Case, NBC's Will and Grace, the WB's Gilmore Girls and MTV's Undressed. Routh also appeared as an extra in Christina Aguilera's music video for What a Girl Wants.
Routh is also known for his role on the soap opera One Life to Live as Seth Anderson from May 23, 2001 until April 17, 2002.
Superman Returns director Bryan Singer wanted an unknown actor to play the part of the famed comic book superhero. Within the first few minutes of meeting Routh, he knew [Routh] is my Superman.
Filming for the movie Superman Returns began in Australia in February 2005. The film is scheduled for release on June 30, 2006.
In his spare time, Routh enjoys playing soccer and basketball, swimming, biking and reading.
