Biography #2 (for Wanda at Large)

Wanda Sykes is considered one of today's funniest female standup comics by her peers with a smart-witted outlook on life that has sent her career in many different directions. Most recently, her one-hour comedy special, Wanda Sykes: Tongue Untied premiered last spring on cable.

Currently, Sykes serves as a field correspondent on Inside The NFL with anchors Dan Marino, Bob Costas and Cris Collinsworth. Sykes adds the comic element to the show -- in the past she has spoken about stadium naming rights, player uniform violations and the legends of the frozen tundra on Lambeau field.

Sykes can be seen on cable's Premium Blend and can be heard as multiple voices on Crank Yankers.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia and raised in Maryland, Sykes graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University. Her standup career began at a Coors Light Super talent showcase in Washington, D.C. where she performed for the first time in front of a live audience. She has since performed in some of the biggest comedy clubs in the country.

Sykes spent five years as part of the critically acclaimed Chris Rock Show. As a performer and writer on the show, she was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards and in 1999 won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. In 2001 she won the American Comedy Award for Outstanding Funniest Female Stand-up Comic. Other writing credits include MTV's 1999 Music Video Awards, The 74th Annual Academy Awards, and The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show.

In addition to her starring role on Wanda At Large, Sykes serves as a producer and writer.
