Having learned the art of acting in the Teatro de Arena, Milton has worked for 45 years in Brazilian cinema, theater and TV. He has played in over 50 films. One of them, Rainha Diaba, enabled him to achieve an unequalled feat: to win the four major Brazilian awards in the same year (the Troféu Candango, the Air France, the Governador do Estado and the Coruja de Ouro) for the same role. Milton worked with Babenco in Lúcio Fldvio, o Passageiro da Agonia and The Kiss of the Spider Woman. In Carandiru, Gonçlvess plays a wise old inmate who loves making elaborate balloons, and who has 18 children.
