Jeff Balsmeyer

Jeff Balsmeyer is co-writing and will direct Foxtel's first, solely developed flagship mini-series Cyclops. Production is expected to begin in early 2004.

Balsmeyer's directing career began when he made a short film THE ROOM, which won the Best Short Film Award at the Cannes Film Festival and was chosen as the opening film of the New Director's Series at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. A year later, Balsmeyer won the prestigious Emerging Filmmaker of the Year Award from New York's Lincoln Center.

Before that Balsmeyer learned his craft by working as a Storyboard Artist and Second Unit Director on over forty feature films for such directors as Woody Allen, Robert DeNiro, Spike Lee, James Ivory, Marty Brest, Michael Mann, Penny Marshall, David Mamet, and Robert Redford. Balsmeyer is American, but eight years ago he met an Australian, fell in love, got married and moved to Sydney where he joined Window Productions to make TV commercials for such clients as Telstra, Foxtel and Kelloggs. He has also worked extensively in Asia, making commercials in Japan, China, India and Singapore for such clients as Opel, Kraft, Mobile One and Asian Paints.

Two years ago Balsmeyer was the second unit director on the film ANNA AND THE KING, shot in Malaysia. He also directed a feature length documentary STEEL CITY for the Bravo Channel in the USA.
