Jerry Herman
Jerry Herman was born (as Gerald Herman) on July 10, 1933 in New York City. He studied drama at Miami University and became a television scriptwriter. Herman moved into musical theatre when he wrote both lyrics and music for the off-Broadway revue I Feel Wonderful which opened at the Theatre de Lys on October 18, 1954 and ran for 48 performances.
His songs and lyrics are well known and have been presented on television, film, and on the stage. Three of Herman's musical plays ran on Broadway for more than 1500 performances each.
