Biography #2 (for The Tracy Morgan Show)Williams was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he excelled in school, but had a passion for performance. After winning an oratorical competition at age 9, he told his mother and father that he wanted to become a comedian like Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby.
At 13, Williams emancipated himself from his parents and moved to Florida, where he first worked selling flowers in the Coconut Grove. His other odd jobs included selling magazines and traveling across the country with a carnival. He returned to Florida for his first stand-up performance, which occurred before he was legally old enough to be allowed into the club.
Williams continued to pursue a stand-up career across the country, making stops in Oklahoma City, Sacramento and Oakland, where he gained popularity and won the Canadian MIST Comedy Competition. In 1999, he moved with son Micah to Los Angeles, where he has become a presence at the Improv, the Comedy Club, The Ice House and The Hollywood Park Casino (where he had his own room and a large, loyal following).
In 2002, Williams auditioned for the Montreal Comedy Festival and was chosen as one of the New Faces to perform at the festival. Before he set foot onstage in Canada, he was noticed by NBC Studios and signed to an overall deal. Later that year, Williams guest-starred on NYPD Blue and appeared to rave reviews in his first feature, Friday After Next, as Money Mike.
While continuing on both the big and small screens, Williams still tours the country performing stand-up in venues such as Caroline's in New York City, Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and the Los Angeles Improv. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his 7-year old son.
