Greg Pritikin began his film studies by watching 16mm prints from his father's extensive personal collection, and was making his own super-8 movies at a very young age. After struggling as a fiction writer and playwright in his native Chicago, Pritikin teamed up with a childhood friend, Gary Rosen, to scrape together $10,000 to shoot the feature Totally Confused, a romantic sex comedy that debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival. Dummy marks Pritikin's debut as sole writer and director.
