Biography #2 (for From Justin To Kelly)

Anika Noni Rose trained with the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where she began performing in regional theater. Her critically acclaimed performance as Veronica Jonkers in the Berkeley Rep production of Valley Song earned her numerous awards, including the Backstage West Drama-Logue /Garland Award, the Dean Goodman Choice Award and the San Francisco Bay Guardian Upstage Downstage Award. As a member of the ensemble of Insurrection: Holding History at ACT, she was awarded the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award.

Returning to the East Coast, Anika landed a leading role in Footloose on Broadway and went on to give an Obie Award-winning performance in Eli's Comin'. Although she never studied voice, Anika has a powerful, rich sound and has a fluid mastery of a range of singing styles.

On television, she guest-starred on Third Watch and 100 Centre Street, also appearing in PBS' King of the Bingo Game and The Thrill is Gone. Anika also has appeared in the Lincoln Center American Songbook series cabaret The Lyrics of Andy Razaf and was a featured vocalist at the Vatican and most recently Carnegie Hall, in Leonard Bernstein's Mass.
