In 1987 Murray joined The Director's Guild of America as an assistant director and he his list of credits include Cadillac Man, Last Exit To Brooklyn. and She Devil. In the 90's Murray focused exclusively on his directing and producing career and his music videos have been nominated for numerous awards. During this period Murray was also a partner in L.A. based One World Productions, where in addition to his music video work, he developed several film and television projects.
In 1999 Murray launched RuffNation Films with his long time friend, RuffNation Records Chairman Chris Schwartz. The two partners envision RuffNation Films as a music-film hybrid; a satellite to the record company that will take full advantage of the expertise that both have gathered during 15 years in the music and film industry.
Snipes is the debut feature from RuffNation Films, a story which combines the sounds and personality of today's hip-hop culture with elements of a classic film noir thriller. In writing (with Rob Wiser) and filming SNIPES Murray has drawn on a diverse array of influences ranging from 70's cinema to hip hop folk lore. The film is set in Murray's hometown of Philadelphia and centered around mysterious events that occur at an independent record label- a world that is very familiar to both he and his partner Schwartz.
Since wrapping SNIPES Murray has directed several new music videos, recently filming clips for Palm U.K. artist: Lisa Roxanne and RuffNation Records artist: Outsidaz (featuring Melanie Blatt) and is preparing to make his first foray into the world of commercial advertising. Currently Murray is also working on a new screenplay, (another thriller) which he expects to be filming by Fall 2002.
