Jason Donovan
Jason Donovan has been an entertainer for over 20 years with a versatility that has provided a career as an actor in television and film, as a top-selling recording artist and a leading musical theatre star. He was already a veteran of five television series when his role as Scott Robinson in the long-running soap Neighbours (1985-88), alongside
Kylie Minogue, made him into a household name in Australia and the UK. A recording career followed which increased his profile even further. His two albums
Between The Lines (1990) and
Ten Good Reasons (1989) were chart-toppers and earnt Donovan multiple awards including Smash Hits Best Male Artist of the Year (1990) and Britain's Best Album (1989) and UK Trade Weekly Music Awards for Top Album of 1989 and Top Video of 1989. Donovan made his feature film début in Stephen Wallace's powerful war drama Blood Oath (1990) with
Bryan Brown and
Russell Crowe. This was followed by two romantic comedies: Rough Diamonds (1994) directed by Donald Crombie and the Irish production The Sun, The Moon and The Stars (1996) directed by Geraldine Creed. Donovan has had particular success in musical theatre: as Joseph in The Really Useful Group's 1991 production of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, in Camelot for the 1991 Covent Garden Festival and as Frank'n'Furter in Paul Dainty's 1989/9 tour of The New Rocky Horror Show.
