Juliane Köhler

Juliane Kohler studied acting in New York. After her first engagement at the Niedersachsen State Theater in Hanover, she went on to Munich's Residenztheater, where she became a highly acclaimed stage star in roles such as Ibsen's Hedda Gabler, Das kunstseidene Madchen and Schnitzler's Fraulein Else. In 1995 the Bavarian Ministry of Culture named her Best Young Actress. From 1999 on she also starred in productions at the Munich Kammerspiele and the Frankfurt Schauspielhaus, where she played the title roles in Stella and Camille.

Kohler made her feature film debut in Lars Becker's SCHATTENBOXER in 1993. The multi-faceted actress made her cinematic breakthrough in 1999 in the dramatic love story AIMEE & JAGUAR, directed by Max Farberbock. She was honored for this role with the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as with the German Film Award and the Bavarian Film Award.

In 1999 she starred in Caroline Link's highly successful Kastner adaptation PONKTCHEN UND ANTON. Her second project with Caroline Link was the Oscar­winning NOWHERE IN AFRICA in 2001.
