Biography #2 (for The Eel)Born in Nagasaki in 1956, Koji Yakusho made his television debut in 1983 in the popular NHK epic period drama Tokogawa Ieyasu. His film debut came in 1985, when he appeared in the internationally-acclaimed Juzo Itami film TAMPOPO. Since that time, he has continued to appear in various films including his most recent hits: KAMIKAZE TAXI, for which he won the 1995 Mainichi Best Actor Award; the award-winning SHALL WE DANCE?; THE EEL (UNAGI); PARADISE LOST (SHITSURAKUEN), which has been a top-grossing Japanese hit; and SLEEPING MAN, directed by Kohei Oguri, which was released in Japan in 1996 and screened in that year's Montreal Film Festival.. This fall, he will appear in the Cinema Japanesque production of Cure.
