George Carlin

George Carlin is a leading American comic noted for his outspoken, irreverent routines. Carlin began his career in 1956 at the age of 19, working for a Boston radio station. Since then, his work has encompassed movies, television, radio, record albums, books and comedy clubs across the nation. His most recent films include Kevin Smith's Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Carlin's extensive television credits include The Merv Griffin Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Mike Douglas Show and The Tonight Show, among many others. His comedic talents were also featured in his own The George Carlin Show. To date, Carlin's eleven HBO shows have garnered five Emmy nominations and won six Cable Ace awards. He picked up two additional Emmy nominations playing the part of Mister Conductor in 45 episodes if the critically acclaimed PBS children's show, Shining Time Station.

Carlin's recording career includes such albums as the Grammy-winning FM & AM, Take-Offs and Put-Ons and the double CD George Carlin: Classic Gold. In all, he has released 14 solo albums, ten of which have been nominated for Grammy awards. On the publishing front, Carlin's book Brain Droppings spent 40 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list and sold 750,000 copies. A sequel, Napalm and Silly Putty, was published in April 2001 and spent 20 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, hitting the #1 spot in its second week. In April, 2001, George Carlin received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 15th Annual American Comedy Awards. In August 2001, The George Carlin Collection, a special package of Carlin's first four hour HBO stand-up concert shows (1977-1984) was released on DVD and VHS video. And in November, Carlin performed his twelfth HBO special, Complaints and Grievances, live, from New York's Beacon Theater. The album of the same name was released in December. Carlin continues to perform over 60 theater concerts a year.
