Joe Morton

Joe Morton recently completed filming the Universal feature film American Gangster, with Denzel Washington, and the independent film Badland, for which he also composed and performed a song entitled The Devil's Lonely Fire. His other prominent film roles include turns in Stealth with Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel and Sam Shepard; John Woo's Paycheck, with Ben Afleck and Uma Thurman; Ali, with Will Smith; Dragonfly, with Kevin Costner; and Bounce with Ben Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Film audiences perhaps best know Morton as The Brother from Another Planet (directed by his frequent collaborator John Sayles) or as the ill-fated scientist in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Morton's other film credits include John Sayles's Lone Star and City of Hope; Speed; Executive Decision; The Astronaut's Wife; Blues Brothers 2000; Tap, with Gregory Hines; and Gary Sinise's Of Mice and Men, in which he portrayed Crooks.

Morton was a Tony Award nominee for his portrayal of Walter Lee Younger in the musical Raisin. He played Serge in the Broadway hit Art with Judd Hirsch and George Wendt, and he was honored to be asked to join the company in London, where the show originated. Morton also played Colin Powell in David Hare's Stuff Happens at the National Theatre of London. MortonÕs stage career has its roots in the original production of Hair.

Television audiences have enjoyed Morton's starring roles in the series Equal Justice, Under One Roof with James Earl Jones, and Tribeca (for which he also directed an episode). He also has played recurring roles on Smallville, The Practice, CSI: NY and E-Ring. Morton has turned in noteworthy performances for such productions as Ali: An American Hero and the award-winning cable feature Miss Evers' Boys, and he delivered a spectacular guest-star turns on The X-Files and House.

Morton is now pursuing various writing and directing projects. His original screenplay Strangers was featured at the Urban World Film Festival. He resides in New York City.
