Biography #2 (for Alex & Emma)

An extremely talented character actor, David Paymer earned Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for his performance as Billy Crystal's long-suffering brother in Mr. Saturday Night. He also received a Golden Globe nomination in 1997 for his supporting role in HBO's dramatic film about the Lindbergh kidnapping, Crime of the Century.

Paymer has recently appeared in such films as David Mamet's State and Main, Norman Jewison's The Hurricane, Lawrence Kasdan's Mumford, Steven Spielberg's Amistad, Oliver Stone's Nixon and Robert Redford's Quiz Show. He has also appeared in The Burial Society for celebrated Canadian director Nicholas Racz, Get Shorty, City Hall and Mighty Joe Young. Throughout his varied and successful career, Paymer has starred in such diverse films as Payback with Mel Gibson, Arthur Miller's Focus, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Heart and Souls and City Slickers, among many others.

He will next be seen co-starring in David Mamet's next film (currently untitled), Saving Grace with Natasha Lyonne and Tim Blake Nelson, and School of Life for director Bill Dear.

The versatile Paymer launched his career in the hit Broadway show Grease, then starring Peter Gallagher. He won his first film role in the classic comedy The In-Laws with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin.

Alex & Emma marks David Paymer's second collaboration with Rob Reiner, having co-starred in The American President.
