Clarke Peters
Well-known to HBO audiences for his role as Det. Lester Freamon in The Wire, Clarke Peters is an accomplished actor, writer, director and singer. Born in New York City and raised in Englewood, New Jersey, Clarke Peters earned a 1992 Tony Award nomination for Best Book of a Musical for writing the acclaimed revue Five Guys Named Mo. As an actor, Clarke Peters appeared on Broadway in The Iceman Cometh (1999), winning the Theatre World Award, and as shady lawyer Billy Flynn in the revival of Chicago in 2000 and 2003. Clarke Peters' West End credits include Blues in the Night, Porgy and Bess, The Witches of Eastwick and Chicago. Regionally, Clarke Peters has appeared in Driving Miss Daisy, The Wiz, Bubbling Brown Sugar, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Carmen Jones and The Amen Corner.
In addition to The Wire, Clarke Peters also starred in the HBO miniseries The Corner, portraying a drug addict named Fat Curt, and appeared on an episode of Tom Fontana's long-running HBO series Oz. Clarke Peters has also appeared on TV in the FX series Damages, as Dave Pell, Life on Mars, Waking the Dead, Blind Justice, Holby City and Doctor Who: Dreamland.
