Sharon Cuneta

As a child, she dreamt of becoming a singer. At the age of 12, she became what she wanted, and much more. Sharon Cuneta Pangilinan made recording history with Mr DJ, under her album DJ's Pet. And after almost 30 years in the business, she has remained a force to reckon with: in movies, recording, advertising and television.

Sharon made her first movie Dear Heart, under Sining Silangan Productions which broke the-then-exisiting box-office records and paved the way for her reel and real team-up with Regal Films property, Gabby Concepcion. Her father, Pablo Cuneta and Vic del Rosario put up a company to launch Sharon into full stardom – VIVA Films. It is in the Viva Films' movie magic formula that made her a household name and was eventually crowned Box Office Queen for the first time in 1985, and 8 times more after that – the most number by any other actor/actress in the business.

From a feel-good-teeny-bopper roles in PS I Love You, Forgive and Forget, Friends in Love to the inspiring rags-to-riches stories of Buting Walang Ningning (A Star That Doesn't Shine), Sana'y Wala Ng Wakas (I Hope It Wont End) and Bukas Luluhod ang mga Tala (Tomorrow The Star will Vow), to domestic bliss and misses in Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin (Are you Worthy of my Love?), Sa Hirap at Ginhawa (In Richer and Poorer) and Pati Ba Pintig ng Puso (Even the Beat of My Heart), Sharon has established herself as an actress worthy of all accolades she received. Memorable performances was what the public got in movies like Madrasta (StepMom), Nang Iniwan mo Ako (When you Left me), Minsan Minahal Kita (Once I Loved You), Kapantay ay Langit (As high as Heavens) and Crying Ladies where she received Best Actress Award from the International Independent Film Festival in Brussels, Belgium. After 3 years, she is scheduled to make a comeback this year via a movie with Aga Muhlach under Star Cinema to be shot in London.

On television, she endeared herself to the public via her ealy shows C.U.T.E and OK Sha! She honed her skills in hosting through Germspecial on GMA and was later given a show of her own via The Sharon Cuneta Show over in IBC13. In 1986, she made a big leap to ABS-CBN Channel 2 where TSCS became an awarded musical variety show that it was, and the show's main attraction – the Best Female Variety Show Host for 4 years. In 1999, she left the biz to accompany her husband, now Senator of the Philippines, Kiko Pangilinan to Boson to pursue his studies. She made a television special, A Place Called Home – and was nominated as Best TV Special in the Star Awards for TV 2000. After 2 years, she made a TV comeback via her Sunday musical gabfest Sharo during which she had her 1st baby Francesca Emmanuel or Frankie. Sharon the talk show aired for more than 5 years and she had her 2nd baby named Marielle Simone or Miel from the movie Madrasta (StepMom). On 26 Feb 2005, she is all set for her one-of-a-kind show with the musical touch that only Sharon can deliver: May Kasama Ka (You have Someone in Me) on ABSCBN.

In concerts, she had concerts in 7 parts of the US including Hawaii in 2005. She made people in Dubai happy with her MegaTour in the same year, all of which are certified sold-outs. She had first concert in Araneta since 2003 last February 12 where her fans, time and again, proved that there can only be one and only Megastar. Her recordings have never been better – she came out with another hit Sharon Sings Alcasid in 2005 and is scheduled to release her first acoustic album in 2006, both under Sony BMG.

In advertising, she sold a million products than any other celebrities combined. She made a ship brand famous. She endorsed tuna, milk, chicken, make up, feminine wash, facial wash, a bank, a telecom company, and just recently, a mayonnaise – name it and Sharon have done it. Proving that size really doesn't matter all the time. Her face commands revenue and her voice, success in every product she chooses to endorse.

Sharon is definitely not the best singer in the Philippines nor is she the best actress in showbiz, but there is something in her that makes her stand-out from the rest and be the way that she is now – as an actress, a singer, a tv host, an endorser, and as a person. Her being in showbiz, reaching the top and maintaining it are not just because she is an exceptional performer, it is more than that. Call it a blessing, a curse or anything you want, but Sharon Cuneta personifies what each and everyone of us dream to be and have the things she achieved, ours.

Oooppss, I forgot to mention – she is my one and only Megastar!
