Biography #2 (for Amazing Grace)

Belfast born actor Ciaran Hinds is always in high demand, appearing recently in Steven Spielberg's drama Munich, and Michael Mann's Miami Vice. In 2004 he was directed by Michael Apted in the role of Julius Caesar in the epic HBO mini-series Rome.

Earlier film credits include Sam Mendes' Road to Perdition, Nigel Cole's comedy Calendar Girls and The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Joel Schumaker.

In addition, Ciaran Hinds has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Glasgow Citizens Theatre and regularly worked with Peter Brooke and his company.

Since finishing work on Amazing Grace he has starred in Noah Baumbach's Untitled Project, alongside Nicole Kidman and Jack Black, A Tiger's Tale, directed by John Boorman, The Nativity Story directed by Catherine Hardwicke and David Mackenzie's Hallam Foe.

Ciarán Hinds has numerous motion picture credits including Kathryn Bigelow's The Weight of Water, Oscar and Lucinda, The Lost Son, Some Mother's Son, Stephen Frears' Mary Reilly, Pat O'Connor's Circle of Friends, December Bride, Peter Greenaway's The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover and John Boorman's Excalibur, among others. Most recently, Hinds starred in director Sam Mendes' Road to Perdition, with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, and in The Sum of All Fears, with Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman. Upcoming, he will appear in Norman Jewison's The Statement with Michael Caine and in the comedy Calendar Girls.

In television, Hinds has had leading roles in such acclaimed miniseries and telefilms as Jane Eyre, Ivanhoe, Persuasion, Prime Suspect 3, Cold Lazarus, Hostages and The Man Who Cried.

A native of Belfast, Hinds studied law at Queen University before being accepted to London's prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He worked extensively at the Glasgow Citizens' Theatre, where he performed the lead role in Richard III, and with the Royal Shakespeare Company in The Last Days of Don Juan, Troilus and Cressida and Edward II. He also performed in the international tour of Peter Brook's The Mahabharata. More recently, Hinds appeared on stage at the Donmar Warehouse in Assassins, as well as in Sam Shepard's Simpatico at the Royal Court Theatre. At the National Theatre and on Broadway he co-starred in Patrick Marber's hit play Closer.

Ciaran Hinds has emerged as a leading actor of both stage and screen in the United Kingdom. He was the lead actor with The Glasgow Citizens Company for several seasons and toured the world in Peter Brook's Mahabharata. Hinds has starred in stage productions at Dublin's Abbey Theatre, The Royal National Theatre and The Royal Court.

His feature film performances have gained international attention. In addition to THE WEIGHT OF WATER, Hinds' film credits include PERSUASION, TITANIC TOWN, THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE & HER LOVER, THE DECEMBER BRIDE, CIRCLE OF FRIENDS, MARY REILLY, SOME MOTHER'S SON, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, and the recently released SUM OF ALL FEARS, where Hinds plays President Nemiror and costars with Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman. He can also be seen in the recently released ROAD TO PERDITION, which costars amazing talent such as Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, and Jude Law.
