Biography #2 (for The Majestic)Jeffrey DeMunn previously co-starred as prison guard Harry Terwilliger in The Green Mile, and played the prosecuting attorney who helps convict Tim Robbins' banker in The Shawshank Redemption. He also co-starred in the Darabont - produced HBO feature, Black Cat Run, directed by D. J. Caruso, and appeared in the 1988 remake of The Blob, co-scripted by Darabont, and directed by Chuck Russell.
DeMunn hails from Buffalo, New York and made his professional debut in the 1975 off-Broadway drama, Augusta. He later earned a Drama Desk nomination for his off-Broadway performance in the NY Shakespeare Festival's presentation of A Prayer for My Daughter, where he was also seen as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Other off-Broadway credits include the title role in Modigliani, Total Abandon, The Country Girl and One Shoe Off.
Prior to his New York debut, DeMunn toured with the National Shakespeare Company. Among the roles he essayed were Edmund in King Lear and Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Soon thereafter, he bowed on Broadway in The Comedians, directed by Mike Nichols. His Broadway credits include Bent, Spoils of War, K2 (for which he received a Tony nomination as Best Actor in a Drama) and most recently, Arthur Miller's The Price.
DeMunn's television credits include co-starring in Showtime's Noriega: God's Favorite, the ABC miniseries, Storm of the Century, a recurring role on NBC's Emmy-winning Law & Order, and numerous guest star appearances in both hour and half-hour episodics. Among the telefilms he has to his credit are Hiroshima, The Last Tenant, Almost Golden, Path to Paradise, A Christmas Memory, Night Sins, Who Speaks for Jonathan, Down Came A Blackbird, Gore Vidal's Lincoln and a trio of HBO features - Barbarians at the Gate, By Dawn's Early Light and Citizen X (DeMunn won the CableACE Award and was nominated for an Emmy for his role as Andre Chikatillo).
DeMunn's motion picture credits also include Phenomenon, The X-Files: Fight the Future, Blaze, Betrayed, Rocket Man, Newsies, Turbulence, Frances, The First Deadly Sin, I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can, Resurrection and Milos Forman's Ragtime, in which he played Harry Houdini.
