Biography #2Maury Chaykin hails from Brooklyn, New York. The multi-talented actor has played both lead and supporting parts in a great number of film and television productions, making him a familiar face with both American and Canadian audiences.
Chaykin starred in two of the most critically acclaimed films in recent years: the Oscar-nominated The Sweet Hereafter, directed by Atom Egoyan, winner of seven Genie Awards; and Whale Music, directed by Richard J. Lewis, for which he won the Genie award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.
His other film credits include the critically acclaimed Dances with Wolves, directed by and starring Kevin Costner; My Cousin Vinny, with Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei; Sommersby, with Richard Gere and Jodie Foster; The Mask of Zorro, starring Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas; and Entrapment, with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
On television, Chaykin was a regular on the popular series Northern Lights, Oz and Emily of New Moon. More recently, he played Sir Robert de Baudricourt in Christian Duguay's miniseries Joan of Arc and will next be starring as Nero Wolfe in the new A&E series Nero Wolfe, with Timothy Hutton.
