Biography #2Penelope Ann Miller's notable talent has made her one of the most acclaimed young actresses of her generation. Consequently, she has shared the screen with some of the most talented and renowned leading men in film today, including Al Pacino and Sean Penn (Carlito's Way), Marlon Brando (The Freshman), Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams (Awakenings), and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Kindergarten Cop), among others.
After leaving her native Los Angeles for New York at age 18, Miller's big break came when she originated the role of Daisy in Neil Simon's Tony Award-winning Broadway play Biloxi Blues. She later reprised the role in the 1988 Mike Nichols film opposite Matthew Broderick. Other notable film credits include Chaplin, opposite Robert Downey Jr., The Shadow, opposite Alec Baldwin, and The Relic. She most recently starred in the soon to be released independent feature Loving Lulu, opposite Melanie Griffith.
Miller's notable television appearances include roles in the critically-acclaimed mini-series The Last Don, opposite Danny Aiello and Joe Mantegna, and in the Showtime biopic Rocky Marciano, opposite Jon Favreau and George C. Scott.
Miller has received numerous accolades for her work, including a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Carlito's Way and a Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of Emily in the Broadway revival of Our Town. Most recently, she received a Special Jury Award for Best Performance at the Hollywood Film Festival for her role in the independent feature Rhapsody in Bloom. She has previously been named Most Promising Actress by the Chicago Film Critics Association and Star of Tomorrow by the Motion Picture Bookers Club.
