Biography #2

Karen Allen's interest in the theatre began in 1973 when she saw a performance at Jerzy Grotowski's Polish Theatre Laboratory. She studied and performed for the next four years with the Washington Theatre Laboratory in Washington, D.C. and then moved to New York where she had her film debut in NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE. This was followed by her next major success, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, for which she won the Saturn Award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. For her performance in THE GLASS MENAGERIE, she was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award in 1988. After working on several small films, she starred in STARMAN, after which she returned to her first love, the stage. Additional film credits include the award-winning comedy THE SANDLOT, KING OF THE HILL, TILL THERE WAS YOU, FALLING SKY, THE PERFECT STORM, and, most recently, IN THE BEDROOM.
