Joanna Lumley
Lumley's early television work includes Steptoe and Son, The Persuaders, General Hospital, and Coronation Street. Other television credits include Up the Workers, Darling, The New Avengers, The Weather in the Streets, Mistral's Daughter, The Perfect Hero and Love Joy, Mirror Ball, Up In Town, Dr.Willoughby, Nancherrow, A Rather English Marriage, The Kingdom of the Thunder Dragons, Roseanne as 'Patsy,' and Coming Home. She is probably best known on television for her role as 'Patsy' in the award-winning series Absolutely Fabulous for the BBC.
Lumley's early films include Some Girls Do, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, two Pink Panther films, The Trial of the Pink Panther and The Curse of the Pink Panther, The Satanic Rights of Dracula and Shirley Valentine. Her most recent films include James and the Giant Peach, Innocent Lies, Funny Bones, a television film Cold Comfort Farm, Prince Valiant, Sweeney Todd, Parting Shots, Whispers, Mad Cows, Maybe Baby, and The Cat's Meow.
In 2000, Lumley co-produced a new series entitled The Cazalet Chronicles for the BBC. She has written four books; Stare Back and Smile, (autobiography) Forces Sweethearts, Girl Friday, and The Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon. She has won such awards as the 1993 and 1995 BAFTA Comedy Performance of the Year for Best Comedy Actress and Top Comedy Personality for her role as 'Patsy' on Absolutely Fabulous. She was also awarded the 2000 BAFTA fellowship award for Avengers and the OBE in the 1995 New Years Honours.
