Jessalyn Gilsig, originally a native of Montreal, began acting at the age of 12. Upon her graduation from McGill University in Montreal, Gilsig continued to pursue her dream and was accepted to the American Repertory Theater Institute For Advanced Theatre Training (ART) at Harvard. While there she performed in numerous theatrical productions including: The Tempest, and Henry V."

After leaving the ART Gilsig moved to New York and appeared in the Off- Broadway plays Mere Mortals and Gun Shy. She also performed in several regional theater productions including: A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Scent Of Roses.

Gilsig's feature film credits include: A Cooler Climate, The Horse Whisperer, Jacknife and voice-over work in the animated feature film, Quest For Camelot.

Gilsig first worked with David E. Kelley as a guest star on his series, The Practice. Kelley was so impressed with her work that he later asked her to become a continuing character on his series, Snoops, but unfortunately, the show was canceled before Gilsig's episodes could air. Keeping her in mind, Kelley created the role of Lauren Davis on Boston Public specifically for her.
