Deborra-Lee Furness

Deborra-Lee Furness is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and an award-winning Australian actress. She has won Best Actress awards from the Film Critics Circle of Australia as well as the Variety Award and a Best Actress Award at the Seattle International Film Festival for her role as lawyer Asta Cadell in the movie Shame. She also received a Best Actress award at the Spain's San Sebastian International Film Festival for her role in Waiting. Furness's other film credits include Crossover Dreams, Cool Change, A Cry in the Dark, Homo Faber, Newsies and The Real Macaw. She also has worked extensively in television and on stage, garnering nominations from the Australian Film Institute for her guest-starring role in SeaChange, and more recently from the Australian Film Institute and the Film Critics Circle of Australia for her latest role in the film Jindabyne.

Furness also has several directing credits, including the one-woman show Portrait of a Lady for the London Stage, a series of plays for The Hollywood Playhouse and the short film Standing Room Only, which she also wrote and which has been shown throughout Europe, Australia and the United States at a variety of major film festivals. The actress recently hosted Directors On Directing,a series for FOXTEL Australia. She is married with actor Hugh Jackman.
