Jennifer Ehle won the 2000 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for David Leveaux' staging of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, which ran both on Broadway and London's West End.

Her film credits include Istvan Szabo's Sunshine (opposite Ralph Fiennes), David Kane's This Year's Love, Rose Troche's Bedrooms and Hallways, Brian Gilbert's Wilde (opposite Stephen Fry), Bruce Beresford's Paradise Road, and lain Softley's Backbeat.

In 1996, Ehle won a BAFTA Award for her performance as Elizabeth Bennet in the BBC-TV miniseries adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Her other television credits include the U.K. miniseries Melissa, The Camomile Lawn (directed by Sir Peter Hall), and Pleasure.

Her many stage credits include Sir Peter Hall's staging of Tartuffe; Trevor Nunn's staging of Summer Folk (at the National Theatre); Clifford Williams' staging of Breaking the Code (starring with Sir Derek Jacobi); Royal Shakespeare Company productions of The Relapse, The Painter of Dishonour, and Richard Ill; and, most recently, the Broadway revival of Design for Living (directed by Joe Mantello, starring opposite Alan Cumming and Dominic West).
