Shirley Manson
Manson started her music career performing backup vocals and keyboards for a local band, Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie. In 1993, she signed with MCA Records where she recorded the single Suffocate Me for her side project, Angelfish. In 1994, she began vocal work with Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker, the original members of Garbage.
Soon after, Garbage invited Manson to become a full-time member of the band and complete their self-titled debut album. In 1995, Garbage was released to critical acclaim and immediate commercial success and the band went on to release their next album, Version 2.0, in May 1998.
During their two year tour promoting Version 2.0, Garbage recorded the theme song to the James Bond movie, The World Is Not Enough, and Manson focused on improving her guitar skills for their third album. After Version 2.0, Garbage alternated between touring and recording. They released two more albums, beautifulgarbage in 2001 and Bleed Like Me in 2005. Garbage has sold over 10 million albums
Manson has also appeared in print campaigns for Calvin Klein. She is also a spokesperson for the Viva Glam campaign, which supports AIDS research.
She currently lives in Los Angeles.
