Vivien Leigh (Tue Jul 4, 2006 10:18pm ET)report post

1962, 17 years old, took a day off from high school to see a local film theater presentation of the legendary 1939 classic GONE WITH THE WIND (which I had never seen previously).

The camera moves in to reveal Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh). This, I thought, has got to be one of the
world's most beautiful women.

Why do we love Scarlett? Because we loved Vivien Leigh.
She gave us a beautiful, strong-minded, free-spirited woman long before the days of women's lib. She established a standard that lives to this day (with a little help from Margaret Mitchell).

Vivien Leigh was a complicated and sometimes difficult person. But she was a great beauty and a true talent.
I think the studio heads recognized it instantly. So did the audience-- as they do to this day.

i love vivien leigh she was the most beautiful creature in the planet. vivien and elizabeth and jean simmons all look really similar. she was the best actress even if she did only make 20 something films. gosh she was stunning. her and lawrence olivier looked great together even if she was way better looking than him. she was stunning old and young. liz has put on weight but she will always be the stunner in cat on the hot tin roof in my eyes. long live scarlett.

i know but vivien had an affair with peter finch and told larry that she loved him like a brother even though she didnt and was just trying to hurt him..... he had to leave her at the end cos she was manic depressive and would lash out on him plus he needed enegy for the theatre, he didnt wana end up like arthur miller, marilyn monroe taken all his energy that he cudnt write. vivien always loved larry, right untill she died and always wanted 2 win him back. he still loved her 2. i heard befire he died som1 saw him watching an old viv film and said that was real love, that was the real thing...

Are you kidding me? Vivien Leigh is plain looking! There's nothing beautiful about her at all. If you see close ups of her, she looks very ugly. So don't dog on Elizabeth Taylor who I admit, don't look worth nothing now, but back then was strikingly beautiful in her youth. And as for Grace Kelly, she was alright, but Vivien Leigh? Don't even go there.

Well, I think is obviously that Vvien Leigh was superior in all aspects than Mrs Taylor, unfortunately she died very young. I would like have known her, and asked her so many questions about her perfect role in Gone with the wind. Iīd like have good photos of Mrs Leigh, but I donīt know where obtain it.

She was the most exquisite creature I've ever set my eyes on. I remember stopping in my tracks as a little boy running through the house as everybody watched Gone With the Wind. There are lots of beautiful faces out there but nothing as delicate and fragile as hers.
