They were all beautiful, and back then wore more elegant clothing, the movies were better than they are now, and I'm sure the media didn't constantly cram their images and personal lives down our throats every 5 minutes. But truly, what a bizarre and miserable existence to be famous. They can never be themselves.

Elizabeth Taylor wasn't even that beautiful. Her only extremely beautiful feature is her eyes, they are gorgeous but she has a long face, she always had a double chn, a huge forhead, everything else was insipid. And the horrible clothes, yuck.

vivien leigh was much more beautiful than elizabeth taylor. i truly don't think elizabeth taylo is all that beautiful and i have seen a lot of her movies. and grace kelly was a too boring kind of beauty.

i totally agree. i have never thought elizabeth taylor was beautiful in her prime nor have her eyes ever looked that stunning or violet to me. i don't even see the big fuss about her acting. she is so overrated in both looks and talent.
VIVIEN LEIGH IS WAY MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN ELIZABETH TAYLOR COULD EVER BE. ITS SO OBVIOUS. THAT IS WHY VIV WAS THE IDEAL SCARLETT OHARA.

Vivien Leigh (Tue Jul 4, 2006 10:18pm ET)report post
by william Overly
1962, 17 years old, took a day off from high school to see a local film theater presentation of the legendary 1939 classic GONE WITH THE WIND (which I had never seen previously).

The camera moves in to reveal Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh). This, I thought, has got to be one of the
world's most beautiful women.

Why do we love Scarlett? Because we loved Vivien Leigh.
She gave us a beautiful, strong-minded, free-spirited woman long before the days of women's lib. She established a standard that lives to this day (with a little help from Margaret Mitchell).

Vivien Leigh was a complicated and sometimes difficult person. But she was a great beauty and a true talent.
I think the studio heads recognized it instantly. So did the audience-- as they do to this day.

i love vivien leigh she was the most beautiful creature in the planet. vivien and elizabeth and jean simmons all look really similar. she was the best actress even if she did only make 20 something films. gosh she was stunning. her and lawrence olivier looked great together even if she was way better looking than him. she was stunning old and young. liz has put on weight but she will always be the stunner in cat on the hot tin roof in my eyes. long live scarlett.

March, I know I find it hard to believe why Laurence Olivier really left poor Vivien Leigh. But I can't hate him for it. I have been a great fan of them both since the early 60's. But uou must remember he had a terrible life with Vivien their marriage was so stormy they had stand up fights and arguments. Olivier did say if he hadn't got out they could have murdered each other. In his book Confessions of an actor he did say about the marriage problems they had without going into to much detail. Her illness bi-polar disorder must have added to her mood swings which was very sad, I think they really loved each other to their dying days, but he could not take the arguments etc anymore which is understandable, when he spoke of Vivien Leigh in interviews you could hear the emotion in his voice, and he did not like to talk about it to much as he found it upsetting I am sure. I am not making excuses for him leaving Vivien, but she did have affairs with other men I think especially Peter Finch, only they really knew the truth about their marriage. I am afraid the public persona was completely different to the private one.

So was he. And he liked boys and girls. Like most actors, relationships that actually work in such a narcissistic and shallow career are quite rare.
