Biography #2

Garcelle Beauvais currently stars on the WB Network's series, The Jamie Foxx Show and has a recurring role on NYPD Blue as Assistant District Attorney Valerie Haywood.

Born in St. Marc, Haiti, Beauvais (pronounced Bo-Vay) immigrated to the U.S. at age seven, with her siblings and her mother, who sought greater opportunity for her family. While her mother attended nursing school in New York, Beauvais stayed in boarding school, then with family in Massachusetts. Eventually, they moved to Miami, Florida, where Garcelle made her debut television acting appearance in an episode of Miami Vice.

Encouraged by friends and family, Beauvais began modeling at age seventeen, appearing in print ads, catalogs and commercials. She signed with Ford Models in New York and appeared in magazine layouts for Avon, Clairol and Mary Kay cosmetics, and catalogs for Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms and Macy's. She has graced the pages of Ebony and Essence magazines, as well as the runway couture shows of Calvin Klein and Isaac Mizrahi. In 1991, with acting studies dominating her interests, Beauvais moved to Los Angels to focus on her new career. Among her most prominent early television credits was starring as the smart, ambitious and sassy young model, Cynthia Nichols in the Aaron Spelling/Fox series Models, Inc.

Following Models, Inc., Beauvais gained further attention in national commercials for such products as Diet Coke and American Express with Jerry Seinfeld and on MTV portraying a vixen in a R. Kelly music video.

She recently completed a role in the TNT film Second String, a football drama that co-stars Jon Voight, Gil Bellows and Richard T. Jones.
