Lynsey Baxter Forum
| ||||
| by Rob Lynsey Baxter is a fabulous actress, very possibly the best of her generation in the UK. It is nothing but tragic that she has had to struggle for the recognition she deserves in the modern TV & movie industry which, obviously, does not value character, individuality, charisma & presence which she has in abundance. Born too late? The creative explosion of the 1960s opened spaces into which talented treasures such as Julie Christie & Vanessa Redgrave could flourish & establish themselves as icons. Lynsey has always been, in her time, their equal & very likely a superior talent. Looking back, the 80s was a cultural desert in the UK - for all the fondly remembered "New Romanticism" the general tone was dark, ugly & fearfully conformist. Little room in there for the unique elegance & sophisticated beauty of Lynsey. Her time came later, of course, with significant roles in "Peak Practice" & "Gormenghast" to name but two...and yet, where were the starring roles she so richly deserved? Still to come it seems. One day the movie moguls will wake up! (OK, I have to admit to a bias - having fallen madly & permanently in love, all those years ago, with Miss Brodie's most difficult pupil!)
