MacDowell received a 1990 Golden Globe Award nomination for her role in Touchstone Picture's hit comedy Green Card, directed by Peter Weir and co-starring G rard Depardieu. In 1991, she starred opposite John Malkovich in The Object of Beauty and that same year, appeared in her first action-comedy Hudson Hawk.
MacDowell also starred opposite Bill Murray in Harold Ramis' hit comedy, Groundhog Day in 1993 and co-starred in Robert Altman's Short Cuts. She first worked with Robert Altman when she made an appearance in The Player.
Her 1984 film debut was in Hugh Hudson's Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, followed by an appearance in Joel Schumacher's St. Elmo's Fire.
MacDowell's most recent films include the hits Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Bad Girls, which collectively made her the highest grossing female star at the box office for 1994.
