My favorite Maggie Smith movie.. (Thu Feb 7, 2008 2:00pm ET)report post
by Patty Fraser
is one NOT available on DVD--Memento Mori. It was shown on U.S. television's Masterpiece Theatre in the early 1990s. It is Dame Maggie at her best, the deliciously evil Mabel Pettigrew. I long to have this on DVD, but my understanding is that no one has the rights to this film, which also stars a host of other great old stars of British Film--many, like Michael Hordern, long gone. If anyone has any idea how to suggest that the BBC get this released to home video, please let me know.

Maggie Smith, never one to underplay a part (Sat Jun 2, 2007 10:25pm ET)report post
by Mike
Interesting actor this one, unlike many female actors she is a natural character actor, which sort of makes her, in female actor land, a proper actor. (many women film actors have a tendency to be themselves in every part they play). The good ones are noticeably different, as their talent just shines out regardless of their looks. However, these actorly women can sometimes overdo it, as did Ms.Smith in her role as Jean Brodie. Good film, and a memorable performance, but was it just a little too much? I have to ask. Yes, even the best of them get it wrong occasionally.

international tom felton day!!!!! (Thu Jul 31, 2003 7:46pm ET)report post
by anna

International Tom Felton Day is something my friend made up. But what the heck? We can still celebrate it! September 22 is Tom's birthday, and she's hereby declared it to be International Tom Felton Day! What she would like to happen is for you guys - the fans - to spread the word about Tom Day.
her basic idea behind Tom Day is simple: You just relax for the day and appreciate Tom's existence! Haha. You can:

Go fishing
Carry around a big fish, real or fake
Watch Harry Potter or the Borrowers
Speak with a lisp the whole day and see what people say in reaction to you
Blow out candles (This is actually easy for me because my sister shares his birthday!)
Tape his picture to your shirt and walk around like that
Find a pair of BRIGHT white shoes, polish them to perfection, and wear them. Bonus points if they have little silver stripes down the sides, just like Tom's!
Anything else you can think of!

p.s. if you want to pass on the banners...go to http://tomfelton.escafil.com/main.php?x=tomday.php

there you'll find a whole bunch of cool banners...

and don't forget...PASS IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! possibly to everyone you know...

Hello;
I would like to know Maggie Smith's address in England. I have been a fan of hers for years and every time I see her the latest (Harry Potter) I want to write and tell her how much I admire her. She has a face and way that is pure England and I have a love of England that runs deep. I find that I am a year older than her so we at least have age in common. To me England has a magic about it and Maggie is part of that magic.

I am a great young fan of Maggie Smith...though I am only 14 years old...

Not just because she plays as McGonagall in Harry Potter, because she is a wondeful actress in the world I ever seen!

I want to know her adress...so I can write her a letter....it means a lot to me...because I am not enjoying my life and have no one to look up to so I would like a nice role model in my life...who I look up to and adore...

BIIIIIIIIG FAN!!! (Thu Oct 4, 2007 11:38am ET)report post
by Sir Knight
Dame Maggie Smith is simply, the greatest actress to ever come from our shores, and perhaps the world. She does not get the recognition she deserves for almost 50 years of acting. She is constantly shunned for more "fashionable” actresses such as Dame Judi Dench and now, Dame Helen Mirren, but it is Dame Maggie whom Lord Olivier asked to join him in becoming a founder member of The National Theatre, and it is she who has won 2 Academy Awards, equalling, on her own, the hauls of both Dench and Mirren. She also “cracked” American cinema before Dench and Mirren, and is probably internationally more revered and famous than both of them. She can ooze sex appeal, can have you splitting your sides with laughter and then in a flash have you weeping. She is one of a kind and the true meaning of a National Treasure, and the time is right to award her an Order of Merit or make her a Companion of Honour, for her 50 years plus service to acting and being a great ambassador for Britain with every step of the way. If we ignore her, we are simply ostracising a level of talent in a fellow Briton that can never be equalled. Her natural talents and remarkable intelligence will ensure that Dame Maggie Smith remains nothing less than legendary. A great talent, a true Great.
