Biography #2 (for Boat Trip)

Far more attractive than the wacky characters she often portrays, Shaye's debut film appearance was in Jack Nicholson's 1978 film Goin' South. After many smaller roles in both film and television, it was the Farrelly brothers who gave Shaye the first of a series of memorable character roles in their 1994 hit comedy, Dumb and Dumber.

Recognizing in Shaye both talent and a kindred spirit, the Farrellys went on to cast her as the now-infamous landlady, Mrs. Dumars, in Kingpin, opposite Woody Harrelson. They then cast her in their 1998 smash hit comedy There's Something About Mary; Shaye was at her scene-stealing best as Magda, the sun-withered neighbor of Cameron Diaz. In Adam Rifkin's 1999 Detroit Rock City Shaye transforms again, this time into a God-fearing, KISS-hating mom. She will soon be seen in the new prequel to Dumb and Dumber, called, what else, Dumb and Dumberer.
