Her role as Nikki White is custom made for Cox, who was discovered by a prominent agent while attending dance class, and made her feature film debut dancing in the movie Mac and Me. She went on to dance in popular music videos, such as Michael Jackson's Moonwalker and Paula Abdul's Forever Your Girl. She also performed in Romeo and Juliet with the Joffrey Ballet.

In 1994, Cox landed the lead role in the comedy series that helped launch The WB, Unhappily Ever After, which ran for five years and is currently in syndication. Most recently, she was a series regular on Norm and also guest-starred on The Drew Carey Show as Drew's cousin. Both series are executive produced by Helford.

Cox won her first television role as a guest star on the comedy Mama's Family. She was a series regular on Someone Like Me and had recurring roles on the series Baywatch, Pearl, California Dreams and the daytime drama General Hospital. She was also featured on the comedy series Sister, Sister, The Nanny, Blossom, Murphy Brown and Night Court.

Cox's television movie credits include The Ryan White Story and Danger Island. Her additional feature films include Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Glimmer Man and she appeared in a cameo role in The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

Nikki currently resides in Southern California.
