Samantha Mathis

Born on May 12, 1970, the Brooklyn native started early in the entertainment industry. Her mother was a working actress and took Samantha Mathis to an audition for Final Touch baby products when she was only 6 months old. She got the commercial and her first acting job that day. Acting was not her first career choice, however. She had always dreamed about being a firefighter after seeing a terrible fire when she was still very young. But acting was in her destiny... there was no way around it.

Smantha got her first adult acting job in 1988 and made a big impression on Hollywood, landing roles in three series and five television movies before her starmaking performance opposite Christian Slater in Allan Moyle's Pump Up The Volume.

In 1992, she played the voice of the role of Crysta in Ferngully: The Last Rainforest. Slater also starred along side her once again. Her next big hit was as Miranda Presly in The Thing Called Love where she met Sandra Bullock and the two became best friends. In 1996 she made John Woo's Broken Arrow, her third film with Slater, but on September 7, 1996, Samantha's mother passed away from cancer and the loss led her to take some time away from the work she loves. She has since made numerous appearances on talk shows including Leno, Letterman and Conan O'Brien and is now enjoying a renaissance in Hollywood today.
