Tom Everett Scott has developed a reputation as one of the industry's most versatile young actors. He was recently seen starring in several very different roles, including The Love Letter, opposite Kate Capshaw and Ellen DeGeneres, Dead Man on Campus and the moving drama One True Thing with Meryl Streep and Renee Zellwegger. He also won solid reviews in the independent film River Red, which he produced and which garnered acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival.Scott first came to Hollywood's attention as the soulful drummer in That Thing You Do!, Tom Hanks' directorial debut. He also starred opposite Julie Delpy in An American WereWolf in Paris.
Scott made his television debut on an episode of Law & Order, then won the recurring role of the seventeen year old-son earlier given up for adoption on the hit sitcom Grace Under Fire. He recently returned to television in the 1999 telefilm Inherit The Wind.
A long-time theatre veteran, Scott is a co-founder of the New York-based theater group TheaterCo, which focuses on original works. River Red was originally developed by TheaterCo, with Scott directing it on stage.
