John Wayne graces the cover of the premiere issue of WILDEST WESTERNS Magazine. The issue includes several articles and rare photographs of the Duke.

Hi there,

I am an admirer of John Wayne's work and am currently researching an article on his career. I am specifically interested to know what fans think of the fact that Wayne never served in the Second World War? Is that for some of you fans hard to take? Any coments would be much appreciated.

All the best,

James.

I consider that John Wayne did serve in WWII, maybe not in a uniform, but that's okay. He served in the only way he could and that was to entertain our troups and show the people in our great country what our young men were fighing for. His many war movies showed the world what our boys had to endure and what they sacrificed by defending our great country. Had it not been for the movies John Wayne, and other movie stars made about WWII, I would never have known why my mom pulled our window shades down and turned off all the lights in the house when a siren went off, or why my mother had to work in a dangerous small arms factory. John Wayne was a man who represented what the America person stood for, and he did it with his clothes on and without using profanity. He served, and he did it with dignity.

John Wayne was the kind of cowboy who could talk the talk, and walk the walk. I liked his movies, Rio Bravo, El Dorado, The Cowboys, True Grit, and The shootist.
