| by Marian Hello, I am Marian, I am 46 and I live in Holland. I saw Rufus Sewell for the first time in Tristan and Isolde, in 2006. After seeing that film, I was curious to know more about gorgeous, sexy Rufus, so I surfed on the several sites there are about him. Now knowing a bit more about him, I think that King Marke was quite a different caracter to play than other caracters he played on the same level, like in A Knight's Tale, because Marke has dignity, is vulnerable and honest. Not a 'baddie'! I also want to see him in Amazing Grace, because he liked it very much to play that caracter. Seeing him lately in The Legend of Zorro I was not really fond about his looks, but he played Count Armand very well. He himself says that he always gets the same kind of scripts sended to him and that he would like to play in a comedy for instance, but I doubt if scriptwriters share his meaning. Though I hope, for him, that it will work out one day. Stay yourself, Rufus, but don't forget to play on: do it for your fans, like me! Bye, God bless you,Marian. Comment on this... |

| by Cheryl Scott As an American and a sci-fi fan, of course the first I saw him was in Dark City... which led to an ever-growing collection of semi-obscure VHS and DVD... The humanity and depth he infuses into a character was impressive from the start. That ability to internalize and project emotion (fury, vulnerability, lust, jealousy, you name it) so convincingly is a rare gift to be treasured by directors... His taste in scripts isn't always as good as his taste in roles (ever get the feeling location is a priority for this guy -- Malta, the Trobriands, Australia, the Alps...)? You can sometimes see that he does his best in something that doesn't always live up to that performance in the end... But film-making is such a collaborative process that the best work by a few people can be destroyed by stupidity on the part of others, producers and marketers and the like. I hope to see RS keep choosing a variety of roles -- though I'd love to see him get more screen time! My favorite appearances have been the bad guys (Martin in "Victory," Adhemar in "A Knight's Tale," and the upcoming Agamemnon I can't wait to see!), the antiheroes (Mick in "In a Savage Land") and the comedic roles (Frank in "The Very Thought of You," Dominique in "Illuminata," and Ali Baba in "Arabian Nights"), but then again starring roles mean more chance to stretch out... And this guy's obviously got so much more in him. He's got a good head on his shoulders and a short attention span to keep him from being typecast, and now a family to support, so I hope we'll see more and more over here in America! Here's hoping some casting director with more interest in talent and ability than "name" offers him something juicy, with a great location to visit and film at, and lots of time to shine! Alternatively, a hundred more great supporting characters and that Oscar in his 40s is certainly a possibility! (Mark my words.) In the meantime, I wish him luck with his scriptwriting and thank him for inspiring some of my own writing addiction as well! Comment on this... | ||||
