Laurie Holden
A dual citizen of Canada and the U.S. (she was born in Los Angeles, raised in Toronto), Holden may be best known for her work in the FOX hit The X-Files. Her portrayal of Marita Covarubbias, a calculating UN Informant with dubious intentions, has earned her high marks and a loyal following of X fans. Her recurring character first appeared in 1996 and has remained a consistent part of the series up until Holden began shooting The Majestic.
Other notable television work includes a Gemini Award nomination for a comedic turn in the critically acclaimed Due South and a featured role in the TNT mini-series Young Catherine opposite Vanessa Redgrave.
Holden spent much of her childhood on movie and television sets and won her first role when she was cast as Rock Hudson's daughter in the NBC mini-series The Martian Chronicles, directed by her stepfather, Michael Anderson (Around the World in 80 Days). As a teenager, Holden won the John Casablancas Look of the Year modeling contest in Toronto and gave up a lucrative modeling career to pursue her education at the esteemed McGill University in Montreal, where she planned to major in Economics. She subsequently transferred to UCLA and made the unexpected switch to theater arts at the end of her Freshman year. Upon graduation from UCLA with honors, Holden received the Natalie Wood Award for Best Actress in a ceremony hosted by producer Gil Cates.
Recently named to Entertainment Weekly's list of the Top 100 Creative People in Entertainment (The It List) and one of the Top 10 Actors to Watch by Variety, Holden lives in Los Angeles and is dedicated to charities that benefit children and animals in need.
