A native of Australia, Heath Ledger most recently starred in the feature Four Feathers for director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth). He stars in the title role of Working Title Films' Ned Kelly Gang for director Gregor Jordan (Buffalo Soldiers). He portrays the Australian outlaw Ned Kelly, a famed gunslinger who formed the Kelly gang and committed several bank robberies from 1878-80. Kelly was later captured and hanged in Melbourne. Ledger is currently filming Terry Gilliam's The Brothers Grimm opposite Matt Damon, in Prague.

Ledger starred in Brian Helgeland's A Knight's Tale, where he portrayed a peasant squire who takes on the identity of his master when the knight suffers an untimely demise. He was also seen opposite Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry in the critically acclaimed Monster's Ball. He toplined the box-office hit The Patriot opposite Mel Gibson as the son of a man fighting for the American Revolution, and in 10 Things I Hate About You, a modern day telling of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, opposite Julia Stiles.

Ledger's acting career was launched in his home town of Perth, Australia. At the age of ten, he enrolled in the local theatre company and, while performing on stage, began landing roles on the Australian television series Clowning Around, Bush Patrol, Corrigan, Ship to Shore and Home and Away.

Ledger was a member of the respected Australian theatre companies, the Globe Shakespeare Company and the Midnight Youth Acting Company. During this period, he completed co-starring roles in the independent films Black Rock, Paws and Two Hands, in which he stars opposite Bryan Brown. This dark comedy screened at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival.

In 1997, Ledger starred in his first American television series, Roar, for Universal and FOX television. He then landed his first American talent agent and decided to make his move to the United States.
