Lauryn Hill as a racist is news to me, even years after listening to her solo music and work with the Fugees. I don't pay attention much to the media and the 90%+ commentary about the world around us. I realize that it is mostly lies. More people need to wake up to that. Some of you all need to get out more see the world and WAKE UP.

In all the time I have listened to her music, I have never "felt" racism in her tone, passion, talent, and music overall. I do sense her superiority as a rapper, as an intelligent woman, as a cultural warrior (she wants to uplift her community), and as a survivir of lost love, which she has every right to own. Foremost she is ahead of the curve in her genre. Hmmm the Jealousy factor increases.

As for racism that implies a person or group is executing a prejudicial domination over another person or group. If engaging my ear and heart to her plight, as a black woman growing up in the inner city and EARNING her voice to be heard and respected, means that she has power over me, a caucasian man that respects her honesty and integrity then so be it, I'll be a victim to hear, and to feel it.

In her process of becoming a whole and enlightened woman I would never judge her even if she did make comments that were expressing prejudice. Let's face it she has every right to express herself. She does not seem like hateful person. Someone capable of the empathy she emotively expresses in her lyrics, voice and music does not indicate a hateful soul but one that feels and suffers/ed deeply and then risen to burn brightly in the world. And still she remains playful somehow. A true warrior. cheer.

If someone has to burn her music or start a white racist group to balance out her "supposed" hate, then people you are afraid of the simple truth. And the truth is if you are reacting to something outside of YOURSELF then you have not taken a single step toward truly loving yourself or anyone else. Start over.

I believe though her broken heart and triumph over her adversaries and her own self loathing she sees beyond the dynamic dualities of love and hate. The message is in her work. Use a bit of logic and it is revealed. I respect it, and her for sharing her mind and heart so fluidly, and soulfully.

Amen!
It's just amazing to me how willing people are to latch onto some tidbit of gossip and take it as gospel. I don't know alot about the hip hop genre or what her personal plight was growing up, but I can empathize with what it must be like in the inner city in the midst of poverty and drugs and crime. Then she gets signed, becomes famous, has to deal with Industy Executives, crazed fans, always someone wanting a piece of her. Who could possibly understand what kind of pressure someone in her position must be under?. I can't begin to imagine the scope of her life, or anyone else's for that matter. I would never want someone to formulate their perception of me based on some comment they "heard I said." I only know how talented this woman is. If I had never heard any of her lyrics, it wouldn't matter. I mean she's a talented writer, but it's her voice that moves me. There's so much raw honesty present, that I'll listen to (and buy) anything she sings. Isn't talent the reason we know who she is anyway? Please, just let sing....

lauryn hill: racist??? (Thu Dec 15, 2005 2:44am ET)report post
by morne
ok listen. i hate it when people say that lauryn hill is racist towards white people. because shes not. some of us may remember when the rumor started about lauryn hill and some of the comments she made in an interview. i'll refresh your memories...
'if i'd known white people were gonna buy my album i never would have recorded it'

'i'd rather my kids starve then have white people buy my album'

'i'd rather die then have white people buy my album'

Could i just remind you all that these comments were just rumors. people think that just because you're 'pro-black', youre racist which is really sad. Lauryn is simply trying to empower young african-american woman, not hate on little white kids!!!

Hey,

Your not a rasta, your from Jersey. So you married a Marley boy. Remember, his father is half white... and preaches one love. When you make your racist comments, you are no better than the Europens who believed in racial superiority. Be a missionary, not racist. (hope you read this)

Lauren-
You have impacted so many with your unplugged album on MTV. I just wanted to encourage you-keep speaking what God puts on your heart. People need to hear it, and it will be very contrary to them and may cause them to feel convicted. But that is okay. Many prophets and disciples of Jesus in the bible were very unpopular for the things that they spoke against, most of them being killed. You are right-God does know how to speak to our hearts better than anyone else does, but your music has ministered to so many. So keep on speaking out. The only person that you have to answer to is God and His beautiful Son, Jesus, so just keep that in mind. I will keep praying for the Lord to richly bless you, guide you and give you boldness (like in the book of Acts). Please keep putting out the awesome music-and lots more scriptures.

Lauryn, I think you are a trully talented person and have given so much from inside to this industry to open our eyes as people. In response to comments on rumors on something you said or might not have said, it's really petty, that people can find time to sit and email about things that they trully don't know if it's true or not. We as people need to stop with judgement, from my understanding no one person in this forum parted the sea, so that pretty much says it all, let God be the one to Judge this and fight the battle, which we all know that he will. I'm praying for you and your Family & Fans & The Catholic Church & that we all as people will start taking a deeper look inside and focus on issue within ourselves, before we can honestly point fingers and accusations at others. To all that have added comments to this forum be blessed and I wish you the best with any and everything you set out to do. Love Yourself.

As much as Lauren Hill has impacted my life, Diana Ross has impacted hers. Lauren is so influential and has so much to say, which is why she may have less albums, but they are of higher quality. On the other hand, Diana Ross and the Supremes are quality. They helped Lauren Hill gain the confidence to get in front of people and sing. I love them for that. And they are out with a new cd, which is a collection of all their number one hits called "#1's". You should check it out, I have, because you know that Lauren's got it!! Smile

If it was a white person saying she would rather have 1000 childern die then black people buy my album. That artists career would be OVER! In todays world, White people are the only ones racist...its sad. Thats why I have woken up and now i see that white people are going to be the minority in the future. Thats why I have joined a forum for white people,

http://www.stormfront.org/forum/

Most people will consider it racist website, but if Lauren Hill can be racist why cant white people be 'racist' and have a place to discuss white issues and racism against whites. I no longer support Lauren Hill and other racists artists in the media.
