David Wenham Biography (2)

Best know internationally as Faramir in the Lord of the Rings films The Two Towers and The Return of the King, David Wenham is one of Australia's most respected actors. Recent accolades include the 2003 Film Critics Circle of Australia (FCCA) and Australian Film Institute (AFI) awards for Best Actor for Gettin' Square. Indeed, Wenham has starred in some of Australia's best-loved films, including The Bank, Better than Sex, Moulin Rouge! and Cosi. For his haunting portrayal of the psychopathic Brett Sprague in the 1998 release The Boys, Wenham received FCCA and AFI nominations for Best Actor in 1998. The film, which he also associate-produced, went on to receive four AFI Awards that year.

Wenham's recent international credits include Pure and Dust, opposite Joseph Fiennes. He will shortly re-team with the producer of The Boys, Robert Connolly, on Three Dollars, in which he will star alongside fellow Australians Sarah Wynter and Frances O'Connor.

Wenham is well-known to Australian television audiences as the lovable Diver Dan in the award-winning ABC-TV series SeaChange, a role which earned him an AFI Award nomination in 1998. He won the same award the previous year for the critically acclaimed ABC-TV miniseries Simone de Beauvoir's Babies. He has recently concluded filming on the Sam Neill-directed telemovie The Brush Off.
