Julia Sweeney

To the delight of audiences, Julia Sweeney spent four seasons on Saturday Night Live performing a wide range of characters and impersonations, including the sexually ambiguous Pat, singer Ethel Merman and NBC News' Jane Pauley.

On the stage, Sweeney gained critical acclaim in her one-woman presentation of God Said Ha!, an autobiographical portrayal. The film version of God Said Ha! was released theatrically by Miramax last year. She also starred as the title role in Mea's Big Apology, which garnered the Best Written Play Award from L.A. Weekly in 1992 and has been developed by Sweeney into a screenplay.

Sweeney's film credits include Pulp Fiction, It's Pat, Gremlins II, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid and Coneheads, and she has appeared in the television series Mad About You, Baby Boom, Murphy's Law and in the telefilm The Barefoot Executive.

A native of Spokane, Washington, Sweeney attended the University of Washington in Seattle, graduating with degrees in history and economics. She began working in the entertainment business as an accountant for Columbia Pictures before realizing that acting was her true calling. She was discovered by Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels when he saw her perform as part of the Los Angeles comedy troupe The Groundlings.

She will next be seen in Whatever It Takes.
