Richard LaGravenese Biography (3)

Richard LaGravenese was honored with an Academy Award nomination for his first original screenplay, The Fisher King. Most recently, he adapted the screenplays for The Horse Whisperer, directed by Robert Redford, and Toni Morrison's Pulitzer Prize-winning Beloved, directed by Jonathan Demme, which was produced by and starred Oprah Winfrey.

His other writing credits include The Bridges of Madison County, The Ref, which he wrote and produced; the critically acclaimed A Little Princess, and The Mirror Has Two Faces, directed by Barbra Steisand.

His screenplay for Unstrung Heroes served as Diane Keaton's feature film directorial debut and was presented out-of-competition at the Cannes Film Festival in the prestigious Un Certain Regard series.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he studied theater at New York University's Experimental Theatre Wing.
